Blackened Gold Bourbon
This is one of our favorite kitchens! In a world of white cabinets popular at the time, the clients wanted to switch things up a bit with black and gold. The first thing we decided to do was rearrange the kitchen from two areas of a working kitchen and butler’s pantry, which was closed off to the dining room, to one bigger and more open area. After opening up the space and taking down the adjoining wall, we wanted the space to be as open as possible. We searched for the perfect open shelving system and brackets to compliment the space and add a touch of sparkle. We opted for shelves instead of traditional wall cabinets so we could display the client’s gorgeous dishes and plateware. We matched the gold shelving brackets with the gold hardware on the cabinets. To warm the space up a bit, we opted for a golden Ash wood butcher block top with a simple ogee edge detail. For the peninsula seating area, we raised the countertop to bar height and used a marble looking quartz to add another layer of texture and a brightness. The small white hexagon mosaic floor and white subway backsplash provide contrast to the dark cabinets. The end result was truly stunning and a great transformation to a Detroit home filled with details of it’s own!
